With all the talk about remote control this and radio control that, what exactly is R/C?

First, R/C can stand for “remote control” this meaning is for cars and electronics that work with an infrared signal just like your Samsung remote. This “remote control” understanding of R/C also applies to corded vehicles where the car is connected via wire to the remote.

Second is the more updated and current understanding of R/C, which is “Radio control”. This meaning of R/C is due the cars receiving their inputs from the physical remote via radio frequencies. This type of communication to the car is far superior to the previous “remote control”. The early versions of “Radio Control” use various MHz (40, 11, and other) frequencies supplied by a set "chip" in the remote and in the cars receiver. With the upgrades in current technology the standard frequency today is 2.4GHz.

These R/C options are out there if your searching for a specific build or retrofit.

One other thing to keep in mind is the “scale” of the vehicle. Now I am not referring to the weight of the R/C, I am referring to the size. Some popular sizes of R/C are 1/10th, 1/8th, 1/5th, and 1/28th scale. Now these scales may be popular but there are many more scales to choose from when your shopping for your vehicle.

So, what about the vehicle itself?

This one is a bit easier, the vehicle itself is much like a model! You need to take your time, relax, and create something from a stack of parts. If you like models you will love R/C. The joy of being able to play and use your vehicle after you spent time building it is very satisfying. Seeing your creation come alive and sharing that fun with friends and family is worth the work you put into it.

Simply put R/C is a fun DIY type hobby perfect for you.

As always, I would love to hear if you tried R/C before, are just starting out, or maybe you decided to dust of the old car for one more run!
