When it comes to the electric or fuel decision you will likey find that the grass isn't always greener. Usually those that have nitro vehicles would like to try out an electric powered vehicle and vise versa. The choice of which one to buy when you first start out I feel is the only difficult decision to make. With that assumption made let's talk about it.

Is one better than the other?

No. There is not a case where nitro cars are better in every way than electric, the same is true for electric cars they do not check every box to be the best overall.

Between the two they offer some advantages and disadvantages, will cover them now.

Nitro fuel engines.

These are the gas powered cars with real engines. It's important to note that because of the engine operation you will have to remain within certain parameters. Parameters such as air/fuel mixture, exhaust temperature (can cause burns), and brake pads. Keeping an eye on these things while operating your nitro car will give you the best chance at a rewarding experience.

Electric engines

So electric engines require a battery, and if that was all there was to it than this would be a much simpler discussion. There are many different type of battery packs and they also come in various sizes. Just like the nitro cars have parameters electric cars have a few of there own. Parameters such as what type of battery can be used and what size battery (physical size). Selecting the incorrect battery type can cause instant damage to your ESC and force costly repairs.

Other considerations

For electric vehicles you will need some support equipment like the charger for the battery, various cables, and not to mention your probably going to want at least two battery packs on hand.

Nitro cars usually require glow plug and starters to get them running. These items are needed in addition to the amount of fuel you plan to consume during your run.

Closing

There are many other fun and exciting differences between the two and we can talk about it in length the next time for now please consider what we've discussed to aid you in your decision making. Check out our NTK (Need to Know) page for specific information on parts for an electric RC.

My personal opinion:

I do like both nitro and electric cars however, if I was to choose just one I would prefer electric.

As always, I would love to hear from you and thank you for reading
